Page 12: Squaring A Circle By Straightedge And Compass

 

Squaring of the Rectangle (See Footnote 1).

  1. On line (a)(b), from point W, length X’M, mark point M’.

  2. Bisect line X’M’, mark point T.

  3. From point T, radius TX’, draw arc intersecting line WW’at point R.

  4. From point R, draw line parallel to line MN, length WR, mark point S.

  5. From point S, draw a perpendicular line, intersecting line (a)(b) at point U.

This completes the “Squaring of the Rectangle”

  1. Draw lines UR and SW, intersecting at point Z.

  2. Center Z, radius 1, draw the Circle that was squared.
